First-year Eliza Spear is Limelight’s up-and-coming singer-songwriter.
The Los Angeles native, Eliza Spear, has been singing her entire life. “It got to the point where I had singing hours,” Spear said. “I could only sing between three and four because my brother couldn’t deal with it,” – but not for lack of talent. Spear’s mesmerizing vocals and skills with the guitar and keyboard make her an enticing artist who has her own unique flare.
When she was younger, Spear wanted to be like her brother and began her career in the arts following his lead into theatre. Spear says she was tired of telling stories that already had been told, and so began writing her own content. Spears loves performing her songs in a way that can connect her to the audience. “I love when the audience sings with me and can relate to lyrics I thought would only relate to myself,” Spear said. While Spear writes her own content, she draws much inspiration from artists like Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Ed Sheeran, and Ariana Grande.
Spear’s love of connecting with those around her is an integral part of her artistry. She describes her favorite experience with music so far as “singing with my brother during a family dinner and looking around the table seeing everyone singing with us.” Spear sees music as an integral part of her life, and hopes that Limelight will help her gain exposure and potentially tour around North Carolina.
“If I didn’t pursue music, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.” Spear said.
