The year 2018 is expected to bless us with a lot of new music–some of which has already been released, like Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods, Fall Out Boy’s M A N I A, and Franz Ferdinand’s Always Ascending. If these didn’t suit your taste, no worries. There is much more to come. Here are 9 of the most highly-anticipated albums of 2018.
1. BEYONCÉ/JAY-Z – TBD
Iconic couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z are expected to release a joint album sometime this year. They are rumored to have begun working on music for an album together in 2014. Before it was finished, though, Beyoncé’s Lemonade arose, as well as rumors of infidelity, and so did Jay-Z’s 4:44 in response. Now, they are reportedly back on track to release a collaborative album. In November, 2017, Jay-Z said, “we were using our art almost like a therapy session.”
2. CHILDISH GAMBINO – TBD
Donald Glover is expected to release his last studio album under the stage name Childish Gambino this year. Last June, at the Governors Ball Music Festival in NYC, he told the crowd, “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album,” and last August, he told BBC Radio 1 he had been writing new music in London.
3. VAMPIRE WEEKEND – Mitsubishi Macchiato
After releasing Modern Vampires of the City in 2013, Vampire Weekend branched out: one member left, and the rest focused on solo projects. This year, they are expected to release their fourth LP, Mitsubishi Macchiato.
4. CARDI B – TBD
Having skyrocketed to fame in 2017, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper is expected to release an album this year. Each of her first three Hot-100 charting singles went to the top ten in 2017.
5. BROCKHAMPTON – Team Effort
BROCKHAMPTON, a 14-member rap collective centered in Long Beach, Calif., took the world by storm last year with three albums, namely, the SATURATION trilogies. The “best boyband since One Direction,” as they refer to themselves, are expected to release a fifth studio LP this year, Team Effort.
6. ARCTIC MONKEYS – TBD
Like Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys released their last album in 2013 and took a hiatus. After frontman Alex Turner took time for The Last Shadow Puppets, bassist Nick O’Malley told motorcycle magazine For the Ride that a new album was in the works.
7. NICKI MINAJ – TBD
After staking “MotorSport” with Migos and Cardi B on the Hot 100, female rap queen Nicki Minaj is expected to release her fourth studio LP, which would be the first full-length album she has released since 2014. This same rumor circled approximately a year ago. Hopefully, it’s more than a rumor this year.
8. CHARLIE XCX – TBD
Pop artist Charlie XCX dropped two albums last year: Number 1 Angel and Pop 2. She is expected to grace us again this year with her fifth studio album.
9. ARIANA GRANDE – TBD
Last May, 22 people died and many more were injured at a concert in the Manchester Arena in the United Kingdom. Although Ariana Grande’s last album, Dangerous Woman, was released in 2016, she has not since left the limelight. She is rumored to be releasing another album this year.
10. COURTNEY BARNETT – TBD
Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett will release another album this year. It will be her fourth studio album, following a collaborative one with Kurt Vile which was released last year. She is known for her nonchalant, witty lyrics.
