Songs of the Season: Valentine’s Day

Songs of the Season: Valentine’s Day

Whether you’re in the middle of planning your wedding or in the middle of dying alone, chances are you have an opinion on this year’s February 14. No matter your thoughts, here are a few songs to get you in the V-Day mood:

“Get You” by Daniel Caesar

A smooth and sensual song with a good beat behind it, Daniel Caesar brings us the love song we didn’t know we needed. He’s a bit of a hidden gem, and this song showcases what we have all been missing out on.

“Isabel” by The Wombats

Another song on the slower side, The Wombats sing of a girl who has power over a man’s heart. This song is incredibly calming to listen to and is the perfect indie ballad for those who are feeling a more bittersweet kind of love.

“Smile” by Lily Allen

Lily Allen sings to us about how sometimes, being petty against the ones who have hurt us is perfectly okay. For those of you who are feeling a little more hate than love this Valentine’s Day, I recommend this song. But despite how Lily makes it seem so cute and fun in the music video, I don’t recommend paying someone to beat up your ex.

“Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z
2016 NBA Finals - Game Six

Who is better to sing of love than one of America’s favorite power couples (well, before he cheated)? To put it simply, this song is a Valentine’s Day bop.

“How to Be a Heartbreaker” by Marina and the Diamonds

Instead of catching feelings, try playing with someone else’s. Marina gives us a banger that includes a list of rules on how to capture the heart of any and all without risking a heartbreak of your own.

“Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Haley Reinhart

While Elvis put out the OG version of this sweet song so many years ago, and Ingrid Michaelson as well has a own wonderful rendition,I chose this version solely because of the gum commercial. Haley Reinhart has some amazing covers that I recommend for her voice alone, but if you click the link it will take you to an Extra gum commercial rather than a video of her singing. This commercial reminds us of the purity of love, and Haley’s rendition of this classic love song is the perfect backdrop for doing such.

Whether you love love or hate love, I wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day on behalf of Limelight Records.
