Songs of the Season: Winter 2017

On behalf of Limelight Records, I would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season! Hanukkah has already come and gone, Christmas is just days away, and the New Year is approaching quickly; so, I have compiled a list of songs to get you in the holiday spirit no matter what you celebrate! Feel free to add some in the comments.

“Hallelujah” by Pentatonix

Despite Avi’s departure from the group, this arrangement and performance continues to fill me up with the magic of the holidays. Kirstie’s belt will always be the best gift of this season, truly.

“New Year’s Day” by Taylor Swift

A soft jam, this is the perfect song to dance to with your bae post-NYE party. It’s an exquisitely sweet way to start off 2018!

“All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey

Play this at any Christmas party and I can almost guarantee your guests will be rocking along, whether they like it or not.

“Light One Candle” by Peter, Paul, and Mary

If you’re into more folksy arrangements, this song is for you. Beautiful harmonies and simplicity bring a thoughtful moment to a busy time of year.

“Winter Song” by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson

Yes, this is also a soft jam, but it’s so soothing. Grab yourself some hot chocolate, sit at a window and watch the outside world, and just relax listening to this one. Sara and Ingrid will be happy to keep you company!

And last, but not least…

“Ave Maria” by Leslie Odom Jr.

If you haven’t heard Leslie Odom Jr.’s Christmas album or, worse, haven’t heard of Leslie Odom Jr. (Tony-winning lead of a little musical called Hamilton), now is the time to add this song, his whole album, and honestly anything else he sings to your repertoire. His consistency of tone and dynamic range never fail to leave me speechless.
